Covid-19 Home-Schooling: Winns Donate IT Equipment to Local School

Winns is delighted to support a local primary school with the donation of valuable IT equipment to help those students home-schooling.

As the Covid-19 pandemic leaves schools closed to the majority, families are finding it tough to provide the input that schools usually would.

In an effort to help our local community, Winns has donated laptops to St Lawrence’s RC Primary School in Byker to help families who don’t have the equipment to ensure access to learning.

This is essential for children to have every chance of maximising their potential. If we can help, we must.

Clint Milnes, Winn Group Chief Information Officer, said; “When the school contacted us, we knew we had to do something. A situation where children can’t learn due to a lack of equipment cannot be ignored.

“As a company, we appreciate our position within our local community and have worked with the school in a number of ways to enhance the offering to their primary-aged students. On this occasion, we have wiped and repurposed a number of laptops to help families access vital education during this enforced absence from schools.

“Hopefully the situation will change soon, but in the meantime, we are delighted to help.”

St Lawrence’s RC Primary School Headteacher Paul Brown was pleased to receive the donation.

He said; “Our goal is to equip all families in need of technology to safeguard them as far as possible from slipping behind in their education.

“Our feeling is that a lack of technology and connectivity today is like being denied a library card 40 years ago - especially in the context of the current pandemic.

“We are delighted to receive the laptops donated by Winn Solicitors which will mean we can reach even more families.

“They are a company we have worked with many times and we are incredibly grateful to them for their unstinting support to our school.”

We positively encourage any other businesses in the local area to donate any surplus laptops they may have to this extremely necessary cause.
