What are the time limits for making a personal injury claim?
When making a personal injury claim, you have three years from the date of the accident to begin the application as dictated by law.
There are exceptions to this; if you are under the age of 18 at the time of the accident, your statutory time limit starts from your 18th birthday, as opposed to the date of the accident.
Other exceptional circumstances include clients who lack mental capacity, or if you are dealing with the claim on behalf of a deceased loved one. The three-year time period for the latter starts from the day you discover the cause of their death.

What is the personal injury claims process?
The process involves making a claim for compensation based on injury and/or financial hardship caused by an accident that wasn’t your fault:
- It begins with the first call to Winns and an immediate assessment of your circumstances in relation to the accident. Your file handler will provide the support you need instantly, whether that is to do with your vehicle or treatment for your injuries.
- Once initial details are taken, Winns will gather the relevant evidence to ensure a strong case so as to improve your chances of liability being accepted by the at-fault party.
