Celebrities Step Out For North East Fundraiser

Winn Solicitors are proud to have played their part in what is hoped is the most successful Benfield Celebrity Golf Day & Gala Dinner to date.

The star-studded event is one of the most important regional fundraisers in the youth charity’s calendar. Football legend Alan Shearer and some of the country’s most celebrated sports personalities teed off at Northumberland’s Slayley Hall as they turned out in force to support disadvantaged youngsters across the north east.

Going head to head in the golf tournament were Olympic Gold Medallist Jonathan Edwards, England and Ashes winning cricketer Jonny Bairstow, Durham and England Cricketer Steve Harmison and former NUFC stars Rob Lee, John Beresford and Paul Bracewell along with a host of other celebrities who attended to raise awareness about the youth charity’s valuable work.

The face of our Young Drivers campaign, X Factor’s Amelia Lily joined comedian Omid Djalili to provide some of the entertainment at the prestigious Gateshead Hilton for the evening part of the star-studded event.

Over 300 guests enjoyed a champagne reception, trophy presentation and money can’t buy auction and raffle prizes. The money raised will go towards running The Prince’s Trust’s programmes in the North East, giving disadvantaged young people the qualifications and experience to help them get a job.

Amelia said: “The Prince’s Trust do some amazing work with young people who need help here in the North East and it’s been an honour to perform some of my songs to support that. It’s a tough time for young people out there at the moment so it’s been great to be part of raising an incredible amount to go towards helping them get their lives back on track.”

Sponsored on the night by Winn Solicitors, Amelia also announced that she was accepting a role to become an ambassador of the Trust for the North East - following in the footsteps of singer Cheryl Cole. She’s quoted as saying “I’m extremely proud to be asked to represent the Trust. I know how important it is to have that support to work hard and gain independence”.
