Vauxhall gives young drivers helping hand
Motoring giant Vauxhall has developed a ground-breaking scheme which could help young drivers save thousands of pounds on their car insurance.
The company has joined forces with insurance group ingenie to offer 18 to 20-year-old drivers insurance cover for just £99.
The one-off payment comes with a catch – that it’s only applicable to drivers of the Corsa Excite or Limited Edition models.
As an added enticement, young drivers can recoup the cost of the insurance through good driving.
Each policy holder has a ‘black box’ installed in their car which monitors their driving. At regular intervals (every 10 days or 40 miles), ingenie will rate their driving with a score.
Drivers will also receive messages via a smartphone app advising them how to improve behind the wheel and how much money they're on schedule to save.
Every three months a total score is provided and money can then be reclaimed, while there are also special finance deals available to help young drivers afford a new car.
Mark Pinkney, Vauxhall's marketing programmes manager, said: "This is ground breaking news for young drivers, some of whom could still be paying upwards of £2,000 for insurance when they're 18.
"We wanted to provide young drivers who buy their cars through Vauxhall retailers with affordable insurance to help them get on the road."
