Worlds biggest bike bus pedals towards London

East London will next month be visited by an alliance of cyclist who have flocked to our capital to take part in the annual “bike around the borough” and have their chance to get their names in the record books.

Aiming to set a new world record the event will see adults and children tackling two wheels and picking up cyclists as they go.

The biggest cycle bus recorded to date took place in Australia last year which saw 880 cyclists taking part. The hopeful 900 participants of this years Hackney's “bike around the borough” are heading for a secret location where the result will be revealed.

Last year saw the bike around the borough set a record of its own, when more than 500 children cycled around Hackney in a uniformed fashion.

The ride will take to the roads in an arrangement of four riders abreast, these riders will only be permitted to 'pick up passengers' – other cyclists – at designated points, mirroring the behaviour of a real bus.

To make sure that participants are in keeping with cycling attire they are all required to wear reflective clothing to identify them as part of the record attempt.

The annual event won a gong for 'best cycling initiative' awarded by Modeshift.
