Students create the first 'unstealable' bike

Three Chilean engineering students claim to have designed an ‘unstealable’ bike. How true this statement is remains to be seen but if correct, it will be the world’s first. If not, it’s certainly an interesting design! Named the Yerka Project, which is in it’s prototype stage, the design is simply a bike that turns into a bike lock.

By dismantling the handlebars and threading them through the frame, it can be wrapped around a bike rack. It sounds complicated but looks effortless on camera. This is absolutely crucial to the ‘unstealable’ element, too.

As the bike lock is the bike itself, the usual method of simply breaking a bike lock will render the bike completely worthless to a thief. Potentially, the leftovers of the broken bike could still be sold for parts, but it’s a step in the right direction.

At best, it’s ‘unstealable’. At worst, it takes away the carrying around of heavy bike locks wherever you go – now that sounds great to us!
