Spring On
According to research performed by Cyclescheme.co.uk, a massive 6 million people are expected to hop on their bicycles this Spring.
According to this research 1/10 people are planning to change their commute choosing to cycle to work rather than drive or find other means. A whopping 2 million people have been recorded saying they plan to cycle to work for the first time this year.
With cycle to work schemes growing ever popular and with companies providing an installment scheme for new bicycles, cycling has never been more popular.
The data also recorded the frustrations that commuters find while having to use public transport from serious overcrowding (including having to suffer a stranger’s armpit in ones face), to frequently being late because of transport slowness and more seriously being pickpocketed.
In a turn of events, ¾ of people are decideing to make a ‘Spring Resolution’ this year rather than the traditional ‘New Years’ and are choosing ‘cycling’ to be their new exercise regime.
Psychologist Dr Anjula Mutanda was quoted on the subject, “Spring signals nature’s new start and we aren’t immune from it. The physiological affect on mood as well as positive associations with spring as a time of renewal make us want to engage in something new.
“Spring, on the other hand, is perfect for new goals like cycling to work, because there is greater synchronicity between our physical environment and our psychological mindset.”
Cyclescheme are starting the campaign #SpringCleanYourCommute to encourage people to adopt the cycle to work scheme. To show their support to the cause, cyclists across the UK are ditching their cycling gloves and donning a traditional spring cleaning favourite, marigold rubber gloves.
Cyclescheme.co.uk spokesperson James Borley was quoted, “Never mind spring cleaning your home, 2014 is all about spring cleaning your commute! Join the millions taking up cycling this spring and don’t forget you can get your bike, your safety gear and stylish clothing at a massive 25 per cent to 42 per cent discount if you make use of tax breaks through Cyclescheme.”
