
Garmin Launch GPS Cycle Computer
Worldwide navigation provider Garmin has released a new top-end GPS-enabled bike computer as part of its popular Edge rang, the Edge 1000.
The innovative new device features more advanced live tracking of your riding than any of its previous models combined with a three-inch colour touchscreen and 15-hour battery life.
The Edge 1000 boasts advanced segment tracking, so that users can view start and finish points of ride segments and receive live information on their progress. When connected to a smartphone, the Edge 1000 will allow riders to take calls and text messages.The LiveTrack feature means your cycling route can be followed online.
The 1000 includes Bluetooth and WiFi connectivity, so that your data can be uploaded easily at home or at a WiFi hotspot. An in-built map provides comprehensive GPS navigation, including turn-by-turn instructions for those trying out new routes and touring. When you enter how far you want to ride, the unit comes up with circular routes to choose from.
Andrew Silver, Garmin Product Manager said: “The Edge 1000 combines the essential legacy features cyclists love from the Edge Touring and Edge 810, with exciting new features including a large high-resolution color touch screen display, advanced smartphone connectivity, and challenging segment features that will take cyclists of any ability’s training to the next level.”
The 1000 is compatible with ANT+ sensors such as heart-rate monitors and power meters. It will also display gear selection on bikes with Shimano Di2 electronic gears. Garmin say that a future operating system update will enable the screen to be flipped sideways.
The Edge 1000 retails for £439 for the computer alone, or £499 in a bundle with heart-rate monitor and speed/cadence sensors.
