Cycle Super Highway Safety Questioned
Introduced by Transport For London, cycle “super highways” have been praised by many as a step in the right direction for those who choose to pedal their way around the Capital.
However, one leading figure in the city has raised concerns over the safety of the blue lanes, labelling them as potentially confusing and dangerous.
It is claimed that evidence had been gathered outlining the fact that “many cyclists and motorists simply do not appreciate that such a blue strip without a white line border (whether broken or unbroken) is not a cycle lane”.
In addition, it is thought that many cyclists wrongly assume that they have priority [when using the super highway], and are lulled into a false sense of security.
Do you regularly use the blue cycle lane in London? We’d love to hear your views.
