Remember a Charity - Gifts in Wills
Leaving a percentage of your estate, or a fixed sum, to charity can make a big difference to a worthy cause of your choice.
As part of Remember a Charity Week, which is coming up, have you considered arranging this as part of your financial plans after you die?
Although not a subject many wish to consider, it’s an important discussion and one that can, when acted upon, leave you with peace of mind that your wishes will be delivered on after you pass.
Remember a Charity
Gifts in Wills are vitally important to charities as legacies account for a huge proportion of the money donated to charity every year in the UK. For example, in 2023 The British Heart Foundation received over half of their donations from gifts in Wills; that amounted to £95 million donated from legacies alone.
Have you considered leaving a gift in your Will?
Remember a Charity bring together hundreds of other charities who rely on gifts in Wills. If you are interested in supporting a charity after you have passed away, Remember a Charity can help you identify a cause where you can make the biggest impact with however much you are able or willing to donate.
You can also browse their list of charities to find one that resonates with you if you are considering making a gift but unsure which charity to choose.
For each charity you will find details on the activities and services your gift would directly support.
What are the benefits of leaving gifts in a Will to charity?
There are obvious benefits of leaving gifts in a Will to charity, including a financial boost to the organisation.
But on a more personal level, the process can be more specific to you:
- Make a Difference to your Local Area - Regardless of whether or not you are a regular donor to a local charity during your lifetime, a gift in your Will could make a huge difference to your community for future generations and could keep your legacy alive for years to come
- Memorialise a Loved One - A gift to charity can be in memory of a loved one, for example your chosen charity may have offered support and heath care to your relative during their lifetime.
Worried about Inheritance Tax?
Remembering a charity in your Will could reduce your Inheritance Tax bill whilst making a huge difference to UK charities.
Did you know if your estate is liable to pay Inheritance Tax, gifting 10% or more of your net estate to UK charities in your Will can reduce the tax rate from 40% to 36%?
Contact us to find out more information about this.
Currently, only 6% of people leave a charitable gift in their Will; if this were to increase to 10% an extra £1 billon could be donated to charity each year!
Charitable gifts do not have to be large, even gifting 1% of your estate or a small sum to charity would significantly increase yearly donations as more people become aware of this option.
