Tips for Driving in Autumn!

There are a few weeks left before winter, and you may have noticed that autumn poses its own unique challenges in terms of driving. Much of the driving advice out there focuses specifically on winter driving, so we’ve put together a few tips to see you through until the end of this season.

Watch out for the glare

At this time of year, there is plenty of bright days and low sun. This can cause real problems when driving. This can lead you to being dazzled, and preventing you from seeing what’s coming up on the road ahead.

To minimise the effects of this, clean your windscreen thoroughly inside and out. Any smears or smudges will only serve to impair your vision further. You may also wish to consider wearing sunglasses. If you find that you are being dazzled badly, you may need to slow down, or if it is safe to do so, stop.

Defrost your windscreen thoroughly

Defrosting your windscreen on a cold morning can be a pain, but cutting corners or not doing it properly can be dangerous, as it can mean that you can’t see the road ahead, or behind properly, and may be more susceptible to being dazzled.

Top up your screen wash

To help keep your windscreen clear from any nasties which might impair your ability to see in low sun, keep your screen wash topped up. This will come in particularly handy as roads start to be gritted as the colder weather sets in.
