Who can be a Beneficiary of my Will?
When thinking about ‘who can be a Beneficiary of my Will?’ anyone can be nominated but it’s important to think carefully about your circumstances.
It certainly isn’t a question that should be answered hastily and should come with plenty of consideration of who you feel is deserving of what.
After all, you’ve worked hard to build up an estate and you know who should benefit from it.
What is a Beneficiary?
This is the title given to someone who is nominated in a Will to receive the whole or part of the estate of the Testator (the person creating a Will). They are selected by the Testator and will usually be someone that is close to them, either a family member, friend, or even work colleague.
Who can be a Beneficiary?
Anyone can be a Beneficiary of a Will so long as it is the choosing of the Testator and they are under no external influences to pick someone.
Selections could include a spouse, children, other family members, friends, close work colleagues or charities.
The choice is yours and yours alone.
What should you consider when choosing a Beneficiary?
It’s important to consider your options of beneficiaries when creating a Will. Who would you like to take care of, financially or by gift, after you’ve gone? No-one else can make those decisions for you and there is no set formula.
An intimate decision to make, whatever you decide will be based on your relationships and your unique personal circumstances.
