What Are The Most Walkable Cities in the World?
If you’re an avid walker, you might be wondering which cities would be best for you. Or perhaps you’re just curious about how your city compares to others, in terms of pedestrian accessibility. Here, we take a look at some of the most walkable cities in the world.
New York
Despite having a great deal of motor traffic, New York has amazing opportunities for pedestrians. The grid layout of the streets makes it easy to navigate, and pedestrian areas like the high line, an old freight rail line turned pedestrian walkway, which gives amazing views of the city from up high are excellent for walkers. There are also a whole host of bridges, such as the Brooklyn Bridge, which offer a great backdrop, and also connect areas together so that exploring different parts of the city is easy.
Florence
Florence is well-known for being one of the world’s most pedestrian-friendly cities. Not only is traffic heavily restricted in the main city centre areas, but there are also a whole host of cobbled streets and plazas, perfect for a pleasant stroll. There is also a great pedestrian bridge, with amazing views of the city, and to top it off, many of the main landmarks are close enough together to mean that taking other forms of transport just isn’t necessary!
Paris
Paris is a fantastic city for any pedestrian. While there is heavy traffic flow in some areas, the River Seine provides an ideal location for a stroll. There are also many pedestrian streets, perfect for exploring the authentic Parisian culture.
